It’s no great secret that when it comes to premium fishing tackle, the names Daiwa and Shimano have been at the forefront of fishing innovation for the last half a century or more and nothing gets tackle nuts more excited than when they release their new flagship reels. The new Daiwa Saltiga and Shimano Stella are absolutely brimming with the very latest technology to give the angler a world beating experience.

Daiwa has really stepped up it’s already impressive game this year with the brand new 20 Saltiga. Designed to tackle some of the hardest fighting and fastest moving fish on the planet, it’s hard to believe that Daiwa could jam any more features and technology into a reel than they did for the older 15 Saltiga model, but somehow they have! The Daiwa 20 Saltiga is stacked with these new features:

  • Monocoque Body (MQ)
  • Screw-in engine plate
  • Screwless rear cover

Compared to the 15 Saltiga, the 20 Saltiga has some key improvements:

  • 12% Larger Gear Diameter
  • Gear strength more than double
  • More than double Air Rotor Rigidity
  • Drag Durability 10x stronger
  • Vastly improved heat dissipation

Shimano have swung for the fences with the all new Stella SWC. Long recognised as the pinnacle of Shimano’s range, the new Stella SWC is a significant step up from the last model.

Shimano’s goal for the new Stella SWC was to deliver ultimate power and fish-fighting performance, and they have definitely shot the lights out on that front. The Stella SWC is one impressive piece of kit, with these features:

  • Infinity Drive paired with the existing X-Ship system deliver lightweight, powerful winding.
  • Improvements to the SWC’s gearing removes any contact with the inner part of the pinion gear has with the main shaft, as a high-sliding bushing supports it.
  • A special skid coating has also been incorporated to further reduce sliding resistance improving handle rotation torque by 26% (compared to conventional system)
  • Upgraded heatsink drag in the 10000 to 30000 sizes provides superior drag performance under extreme heat
  • Water resistant rating of IPX8 - X-Protect rubber gaskets have been incorporated into the line roller
  • A new and improved compact rotor design features in the 8000 sizes

Seeing is believing!
